Workplace

Monitor the workplace conditions with the WBGT meter and record the readings below. Repeat the measurement when conditions change. Tips for using the EXTECH EX-HT30: slide the transparent protective cover down, take the reading indoors in the OUT position (= out of direct sunlight), air temperature = TA, relative humidity = %, radiant heat = TG.

Air temperature °C (e.g. 24.5)

Work at temperatures above 50 °C can only be performed for very short periods (‘in and out’). Is it necessary to work longer at this location? Then first take measures to reduce the temperature to well below 50 °C and measure all parameters again. One possible measure is to supply cool air.

Relative humidity %

A humidity level above 85% can significantly increase heat stress. Take measures to reduce the humidity. If this is not possible, contact the occupational hygienist.

Radiant heat °C (e.g. 28.1)

Take measures to reduce the radiant temperature at the workplace to below 60 °C and then measure all parameters again. Provide shielding between the heat source and the employee. If this is not possible, wear heat-reflective clothing.

When you work hard, your body warms up more quickly, even if the environment is not that warm. That is why it is important to know how strenuous the work is.

Effort

Light effort, standing tasks, (assembling, standing and talking at work, changing clothes), walking

Moderate effort, operating automated heavy duty equipment, machine tooling (machining, working sheet metal, machine fitter, operating lathe, welding)

Medium Effort, carrying objects (less than 11 kg) assemble or repair heavy parts, fast walking

High effort, lifting objects more than 23 kg, carrying objects (more than 11 kg) masonry, running, walking stairs

Very High Effort, using heavy power tools such as pneumatic tools ( jackhammers, drills), carrying objects about 23-35 kg, removing slag, tending furnace, carrying loads up stairs (11-23 kg)
